DIY: galaxy t-shirt

This is probably my favorite DIY so far! It's surprisingly easy, even though the painting part looks hard. So let's get started!

Supplies: 

-white, blue, pink, purple, and black paint

-masking tape or painter's tape (I used painter's)

-scissors

-black t-shirt

-a place to get messy in!

Directions:

1. Tape off a shape (I used a triangle) with masking tape on your shirt. This makes sure you will have clean, easy lines when you end.

2. Paint the area inside the shape white.

3. Using a sponged brush, paint thin layers of  "blobs" with light pink paint. Sponge this but make sure it looks abstract and not painted.

4. Still use the sponge brush to paint blobs of purple, then blobs of blue.

5. Use black paint to sponge around the areas where there is white (you can leave some white if you want to, I just sponged it all out.)

6. Splatter paint making sure not to get it on the shirt (but if you do, carefully wipe it off with water), and paint stars where you like.

7. Cut the sleeves off or leave them on.

8.  Take the tape off and accessorize!

*** To wash this, hand wash because eventually the acrylic paint will come off with a few washes.

diy: glass shelf

I have a closet organizer in my closet that has (a) two racks for hanging up my clothes and (b) four shelves to hold my "undergarments" and my notebooks. But everytime I put something on the shelf, it falls through.

So, I found an old frame and put the glass from it on the shelf. Now, none of my lotion falls through. I even got crafty and painted a jar for my "makeup brushes" (there is actually one makeup brush, and the rest are paint brushes that I use as paint brushes).

diy: bound notebook

I love these little books! I first learned this is 6th grade when we had to make poem books for a project. Now I use this little trick all the time when I'm running out of notebooks! 

1. Gather up about 8-12 pieces of paper and fold all of them in half. Place each inside another.
2. Take a needle and thread and start poking holes in the crease. Thread it all the way to the bottom of the page.
3. Reverse and go into the holes you already made. This will provide a line of stitching on each side.
4. Cover up the cover with a magazine page or two and voila! you have your notebook!

diy glittered headband

  I've seen these at claire's are soo cute, and I've wanted one for a while but I don't have any money.
#firstworldproblems
So I decided to make my own! I saved money, and they look exactly like the ones at claire's. #booyah
First I bought a 3 foot roll of stretchy sequined ribbon for $5.99 and cut it to match my head size. (hint: make it super small because it'll stretch and you'll be able to make two more.) Then I sewed the ends together (you can do this by hand...I actually recommend it because my needle broke) and voila! you have your "ripoff" headband for less than $6.00.

diy magazine envelopes

diy magazine envelopes! these are so cute & fun to send in the mail! #snailmailholler

1 rip out a page from an envelope with a design you like.

2 flip over and fold the top two corners, like a paper airplane

3 fold the bottom two corners to half the width of the top two

4 fold up the sides to meet the edge of the small corners

5 tape up any loose edges

6 fold up the bottom half to meet the top corners

7 tap the sides to make a pocket

8 see? pocket time!

9 fold over the top edge to make the flap

10 finished product!

i've been obsessed and pretty sure i'm mass-producing these. #movingon

p.s. today's the last day of august? whaaaaat happened to summer? :( 4 more days until school!

diy: chalked hair

i've been wanting to do a diy for a looooong time, so here it is!

it's #superfab

materials needed:

spray bottle

lots of paper towels (it's messy!)

some kind of heat product

soft chalk pastels (NOT oil based! these will ruin your hair), about 2-3 pieces (i used purple, blue, and pink)

1 take a section of your hair (about 1/4 of an inch wide), and (if you have blonde hair, do not spray unless you want it to stay in longer.) spray the bottom part of it. with longer hair i like to spray about half for it to show up more, but with short hair, spray only a little bit of the end.

2 wet down the chalk pastel (again, only with darker than blonde hair)

3 put the section of hair (that you sprayed) on the palm of your hand and rub the chalk on the hair. it will get knotty, but that is okay because the chalk is rubbing off on it.

4 do this with one color on a few strands, then switch colors and do it on different strands. if you want tye-dye, try changing colors in the middle of a strand!

5 when all the hair that you prefer is colored, then let it dry and either straighten it or curl it (curling works best) to set the chalk.

this lasts about 1-3 days, depending on if you wet your hair or not (wet stays longer).

when you want to get it out, brush your hair to remove as much chalk as you can, then shampoo + condition the ends to work out the chalk. this is not damaging to your hair unless you do it often, because the chalk removes moisture that your hair tips need. the finished prroduct is my hair at the top of the page.

diy inspiration hanger

supplies needed:

twine (i think it's called twine..i guess it's a string that kind of looks like hay...whaa??)

magazine cutouts

clothespins (i just got like a jumbo pack at walmart.

tape

step numero uno: tape the twine onto a wall or the back of your door, with the amount you want. i did it in kind of a swooping shape, but make sure to tape securely since the twine can't hold a ton of paper or clothespins.

step numero dos: cut out pictures from mags or print out pictures. with scissors. cause that'll be helpful, ya know?

step numero tres: using the clothespins, clothespin them up onto the twine and BAM! you're finished!

side braid

sometimes i get creative during language arts.

like i invent new stuff...like a side braid. a side braid that's in the middle.

and then i braid it and hold it with my finger for an hour because [firstly] i don't have a hairband and [secondly] i'm pretty awesome like that.

i am in love.

and since i'm such a bargain shopper, i got the little curling iron that i used on the sides for 2 bucks. it's the width of my pinky. literally.

how to mod podge

hey! i've been feeling really crafty lately...so i have a few more posts about crafti-ness. this is partly because we have a 4 day weekend. FOUR DAY WEEKEND, PEOPLE. we never get those.

one. place all your words on the journal [or paper] in the desired locations

two. take them all off [i like to take a picture of it first so i know where everything went] and paint the modge podge on the journal..it will be milky white, but just ignore it (:

three. place the words in the order you had them in and paint over those words [careful not to paint to hard, because sometimes the smaller words/pictures come off easily.]

four. finished product!!

i actually added a "my story" to the back to make it mine [haha, that was kinda funny. *no laugter* ...actually, no it wasn't. never mind.]

i use hairdryers for evil things.

actually, it wasn't that evil. i only melted about 20 crayons TO THEIR DEATH.

here's how they died passed on...

i got this idea from pinterest, and i have wanted to do this for so long...but i've never had the time! i've always got distracted by internet other things, so today was the perfect day :). this is going up in my room for sure. all i did was find some crayons, and peeled off the wrappings, then hot-glue-gunned [if that's a word...] them to a canvas. since we had just bought a new hair dryer, i used that and held it above the crayons for a while until they started to melt. then it turned into a beautiful work of art!

hey guys! merry christmas eve! i'm actually scheduling this post, because i'm having a blast with my cousins right now. and probably eating santa's cookies. so here's me as martha stewart! :)
